Landrieu just got approved Wildes to the 5 member board that oversees Civil Service workers. Landrieu has said he will get on the board who he knows will push through his changes to Civil Service. Landrieu is very secretive and dismissed the SEIU representative to his commission to see what changes can be made to Civil Service. Landrieu will put all on the block including annual and sick leave and pension plan. For 2 years in a row the City has weakened the benefits of the health care. While Nagin only threatened furlough for city workers, Landrieu did furlough workers (excluding police, firefighters and library staff). He did balance the budget on the backs of the workers.
What does this mean for Wildes who will be expected to push through Landrieu’s weakening of Civil Service’s protocols and benefits? Sure bishops can speak all this feel good stuff, but where is the action? We need to keep an eye on Wildes and Aymond who seem to be too chummy with the city government and Landrieu both CONSISTENTLY having shown themselves as anti-progressive and to be hostile to the poor in particular and blind to the rights of the majority in general.
Just take note how Wildes votes to change Civil Service. Aymond does most of his work behind the scenes so it is easy for him to hide what he does and hide inside that his deafening silence on workers’ rights. Can we get Aymond to comment on this and particularly changes to New Orleans Civil Service? It is not enough for me his signed off on this.
